Deuteronomy 6 - A Nation's Success Starts at Family

Deuteronomy 6 - A Nation's Success Starts at Family

The greatest commandment that starts this chapter, especially in the wake of chapter 5 is extremely consistent. It explains the most important way that a nation continues to follow God; through family, having children, and teaching those children to follow God as well. God's people are to follow God's statutes and laws and, in return, God will provide. A land that refuses to obey God and instead follow false gods, will be destroyed. I pray for the sake of the West that there is a revival of the Church of Jesus Christ and that we will return to being nations that fear and respect God. I pray that leaders who reject Jesus be thrown out and leaders who love God take their place. The legal system is an essential starting point for enforcing the morality of the general public while the church's job is to provide the spiritual basis and connection of why that morality is so important in the first place. When your children ask why a rule is in place, it is our duty to understand why ourselves and be able to give an answer for it. Law without a reason breeds resentment and is the fire that fuels the lazy atheistic opposition of "So God is just an angry controlling old man in the sky?". It is too easy to rebel against something you don't understand or respect, so let's make sure our children have a deep understanding of and respect for God as well as the reasons for God's commandments.
