Deuteronomy 19 - Intent Matters, Land is Property, and Perjury is Illegal

God makes is abundantly clear that we are to judge intent carefully before convicting one of a crime. Especially that of murder where the punishment is an eye for an eye. Carrying out false punishment of the death penalty should be severely protected against. The purpose for the separation of cities is an interesting one as well and could very well be the source of separation of powers locally for the protection of the innocent.

One of the stronger condemnations against those who believe that land is not something that one should own is found here as well. God clearly intended for land to be owned by people and that even the malicious moving of a boundary marker is akin to theft, let alone the outright theft of the land itself. The boundary markers of local land is to also be set by the state.

The bearing of false witness is one that is close to the heart currently as it is probably the most prevalent in our country today out of all the laws listed here. Lawfare using lawsuits have almost become something of a "quick recipe to get rich" at the severe expense of an innocent party these days. The love of neighbor is completely gone. Everyone is extremely quick to jump to the letter of the law in the case of any tiny accident, exaggerating or even fabricating their injuries to a ridiculous degree in order to condemn the victim and take their money. We recently even had this happen to us as well. Someone rammed into Jessica's car while she was backing out in a parking lot. The damage is clearly on the back passenger side of the vehicle making it impossible for Jessica to be at fault. Yet the guilty party claimed neck injuries, a litany of other physical medical issues, and shock in an attempt to force us to pay over $13,000 to them rather than paying off the damages dealt to our car. Where has our legal system gone where this kind of thing is tolerated these days? The just and proper thing to do is to punish those who bear false witness by making them guilty of the false crimes they have fabricated against their neighbor, not to just blow it off as the norm.
